The University of Wisconsin -Madison and the Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand (EEC) signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance Thailand’s educational capabilities.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand (EECO) signed of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on initiatives aimed at expanding scholarly ties, facilitating academic cooperation and promoting mutual understanding for both parties. The MOU signing ceremony took place at the Government House.

The MOU signifies a commitment to exploring the feasibility of establishing a framework for educational and scientific cooperation between UW–Madison and EECO.

Strengthen a competitiveness in EEC-targeted industries

This collaboration is set to enhance and seeks to bolster competitiveness in EEC-targeted industries, including education

and human resource development, medical & healthcare, digital industry, next-generation automotive,
bio-circular green, services, and related supply chains. The joint efforts between EECO and UW–Madison will pave the way for the exchange of knowledge and valuable experiences,

supporting the new generation workforce to meet the demands of the targeted industries.

Focuses on researches and exchange students

The MoU outlines several vital activities, including consultations among faculty, departments, and centers at UW–Madison to identify research and applied research projects that benefit both parties. It also encourages exchanges of students and faculty members for research, lectures, and discussions aimed 
at enhancing knowledge transfer and fostering a collaborative academic environment with institutes in 
the EEC area and Thailand.

The signing of this MOU underscores the dedication of both organizations to fostering educational innovation and excellence. It sets the stage for a collaborative journey that promises to bring about positive and lasting changes to the educational landscape in Thailand.

Over the next three years, the parties will periodically consult to assess progress and explore further collaborative opportunities. Specific agreements detailing resource commitments and project implementations will be developed
as part of the ongoing collaboration.

UW-Madison ranks among the top 25 US universities with the largest number of international students, offering eight undergraduate schools and colleges, with more than 130 undergraduate programs, 160 master’s programs, and 108 doctoral degrees. UW-Madison has a vibrant alumni community in Thailand, reflecting the university’s long-standing international connections.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Nahathai Thewphaingarm- vice minister for the Prime Minister’s Office and chairman of the Subcommittee for Human Capital Management for Transition to the EEC Model, Dr. Thitiwat Adisornphankul -deputy secretary-general to the Prime Minister and vice chairman of the Subcommittee for promoting and monitoring investment in the Eastern Economic Corridor, Dr. Tachaphol Kanjanakul- deputy secretary general, Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand, Ms. Frances Vavrus-dean and vice provost of the International Division, The University of Wisconsin-Madison, alongside other key representatives from
both organizations.
