NSC sets up ad-hoc committee to monitor Myanmar situation

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, as chair of the National Security Council ( NSC ) ordered for an establishment of the ad-hoc committee on administration in case of Myanmar unrest. Ad-hoc committee will provide suggestions to the NSC about Myanmar situation.

The ad-hoc committee chairs by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara.

The committee is duty to monitor and holistically assess the situation, and provide suggestions to the NSC, the Prime Minister, and the cabinet. This is as part of the Thai Government’s policy to undertake proactive diplomacy as necessary.

Mr Srettha showed concern over Myanmar situation which has become more violent. He said the situation may impact Thailand in both security and socio-economic dimensions. As well as the well-being of the people along the border area.

Mr Panpree visited Mae Sot

On 23 April, Mr. Parnpree on behalf of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited Mae Sot. He was together with the Interior, Defense Minister, Secretary General of the National Security Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, Permanent Secretary of Defense, the Royal Thai Army, Royal Thai Air Force. Those agencies acknowledged him on the latest developments of the situation along the Thailand-Myanmar border. And to give support to local agencies and people in Mae Sot.

Mr Parnpree discussed with Tak’s governor on the latest situation along the Thailand-Myanmar border, especially the safety and livelihood of the local people in Mae Sot, and the situation at the 1st and 2nd Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Bridges.

Mr Panpree also surveyed areas around the First Thailand-Myanmar Friendship Bridge in Tha Sai Luat sub-district, Mae Sot district.  They also talked to local venders near Rim Moei market and asked about impacts on their businesses and livelihoods.

He used this opportunity to convey fullest support to the local agencies and people in the Mae Sot area.

This visit took place after the 1st meeting of the special inter-agency committee to manage impacts from situations in Myanmar on Thailand.
