The authority is ready to support Thai durian

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin vows to support Thai durian in a bid to generate more revenue and opportunities to Thai durian farmers.

He visited Chanthaburi and Rayong provinces to meet with fruit farmers. Specifically focusing on durian and mangosteen cultivators on Saturday, April 27.

The authority aims to understand their needs regarding agricultural output for both domestic consumption and export.

The focus is place on durians, with discussions planned around export processes. As well as durian processing from durian which cannot meet export standards.

Logistics to manage produced timing effectively and influencing pricing. Technologies, such as devices that measure durian ripeness, may be introduced to uphold the quality of agricultural products.

“Thai Durian is the kind of fruit that the government wants to support in a bid to generate more income to farmers and relate parties.”

He said Chanthaburi model also is the task that the government wants to lift its potential on its city of fruit. The government may need to promote King of fruits both domestically and abroad.

He authorized the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to join communities and the private sector to organise package tours.

Thai people and foreign visitors should learn the uniqueness of Thai durian-King of fruits- and durian story which link to local culture and agriculture sustainability.

“The government also supports other Thai fruits ranging from rambutan, mangosteen-Queen of Thai fruit. And longan in order to upgrade quality of life among Thai farmers.”

 Foreign Trade Department reported King of fruits export to China worth 93.66 billion baht last year, grew by 81.7%. The export was via Mukdahan, Nakhon Phanom and  Chiang Kong checkpoint.
