Tourism and Sports Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol said during January 1 to April 14, foreign visitors to Thailand reached  10.72 million, generating 518.03 billion baht.

Chinese visitors were the top rank of 2.03 million, followed by 1.39 million of Malaysian visitors, 695, 624 of Russian, 619,186 from South Korea, and 546,935 of Indian visitors.

She said Songkran festival, during April 8-14,had an influx of foreign visitors to Thailand, especially Malaysian visitors which increased by 78,297 this week.

Foreign visitors to Thailand this week were 735,802, up 117,970 from last week or 10.09%. Average foreign visitors were 105,115 per day.       

The government also reported success in organising the Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024. The five days of the festival at Rachadamnoen and Sanam Luang generated 2.8 billion baht revenue.

Government spokesman Chai Wacharonke revealed “Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024 which was organized during April 11-15 along Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue and  Sanam Luang attracted 784,883 Thai and foreign visitors, and  could generate 2.88 billion baht revenue. Sale volume among shops in the event was 9.33 million baht.”

The TAT expected that the spending of domestic and foreign tourists during the Songkran festival will generate at least 100 billion baht (US$ 2.7 billion) in revenue for the country.
