Announcement for five strategies to boost Thai tourism hub by 2030

The government announced five strategies to boost Thailand as a tourism hub in the region by 2030. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin to develop Thailand as an aviation hub to accommodate 150 million passengers in 2030.

Tourism and Sports Minister Sudawan Wangsuphakijkosol said the government will implement five strategies to boost Thailand as a tourism destination among global travelers in 2025. The strategy conforms to the announcement of the Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin to develop Thailand as an aviation hub to accommodate 150 million passengers in 2030.

She said as of April 1, foreign visitors to Thailand have already reached 9.4 million while the government revised tourism revenue this year to meet 3.5 trillion baht, up from previous target of 3 trillion baht.    

The first strategy which will be implemented in the first three months is the government plan to increase additional visa free policy to other countries, and expand the length of stays to 60 days or 90 days from the current 30 days.

The facilitating procedures for foreign visitors to refund value added tax in the department stores or kiosk in a bid to persuade more foreign visitors to spend in Thailand.

An improvement regulation and related laws to facilitate entry of foreign visitors.

The second strategy is the implementing a tourism campaign called “Must Do in Thailand” including “Must Beat” of Muay Thai, “Must Eat” of Thai food, “Must Seek” of Thai culture, and “Must Buy”of Thai textiles, and Must see of Thai culture.

The third is the development infrastructure of both main and the second tourism provinces. The government needs to improve infrastructure to have more connectivity from main provinces to the second tier- tourism provinces in order to distribute the visitors from main cities to second tier-tourism provinces.

The fourth is the development of connectivity to Asean members ranging from road connectivity, aviation alliance to offer flight packages. The government also planned to design cross border OR payment in a bid to facilitate the visitors for the spending. Currently, QR Code payment is implemented among eight countries including Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Japan and China.

The fifth strategy is promoting Thailand as a destination for organizing the world class event hub.
