PM urged to use cloud technology in Thailand

The Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin accelerated the use of cloud technology (Cloud First Policy) among state agencies in order to reduce the government burden on IT investment.

The PM presided over the opening ceremony of “AWS Summit in Bangkok” to drive the use of cloud technology in Thailand. Cloud technology will help to facilitate all sectors both public and private.

He also congratulated AWS’s plans to invest in building a Data Center in Thailand worth more than 190 billion baht within 2037.

“AWS Summit in Bangkok” organized by Amazon Web Services, a subsidiary of Amazon that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered, pay-as-you-go basis

Mr Chai Wacharongke, Government spokesperson said the PM is pleased and honored to be at the event today. This is an opportunity to demonstrate Thailand’s potential and technology readiness.

“Currently thousands of Thai people have participated in the working process related to the eco-system of AWS. They have both potential, knowledge skills which is one of the Thailand ‘s potential on human resources.” 

The government is ready to drive cloud policy

The PM said the government is ready to improve the government system to modernize. The issue was an important agenda in the cabinet meeting at the end of the year 2023.

The cabinet endorsed to accelerate the policy of using the cloud technology as the main policy (Cloud First Policy). The policy is aimed to reduce the burden of investment in the IT system. Cloud technology will help the government to improve better services especially the government agencies which offer services to the public. The technology can reduce investment cost on IT systems, promoting better communication between the government, citizens and private sector.

“Currently cloud has become a backbone of important technology systems in many sectors such as banking,

tourism marketing campaigns, education and the latest technology-Generative AI (artificial Intelligence). So far, many sectors Including the government team have used Generative AI in the working process.

The PM believes that in the long run, AI can upgrade Thai productivity, as well as the entire national economic system.

The technology cannot be implemented without a data center. Therefore, it is very necessary for Thailand to invest in a data center which is the core of cloud computing technology.

AWS invested more than 11.6 billion baht in Thailand   

PM is please that AWS has planned to invest in a data center in Thailand worth more than 190 billion baht by the year 2037. Last year, AWS brought 11.60 billion baht to Thailand.

“I am very please that Thai people will be able to use AWS Thailand Region which will be fully launched at the beginning of the year 2025.”

The investment of AWS, not only supports Thailand to have a stable cloud system. It also reflects that worldclass company technology has seen Thailand’s potential and believe that the company can grow along with the Thai economy.

The Prime Minister said that the government is moving forward with restructuring other industries. Any other Parallel to attraction Data Center to move towards becoming a center Digital Economy

and Technology both attracts industrial investment. Technology at the upstream level such as production Semiconductor all the way to the downstream such as industry Smart Electronics

and promotes increasing the skills of talent

AWS provides training program to 50,000 Thai people

AWS provides training programmes to 50,000  Thai people. The universities also include AWS Academy in the curriculum in a bid to create digital literacy among student.

The Prime Minister confirmed that he will support win-win cooperation. He believed that the continued investment

and support of both AWS and all sectors in Thailand will raise the digital literacy for Thai people.

AWS Thailand announces the establishment of AWS Asia Pacific (Bangkok) Region

Vatsun Thirapatarapong, country manager of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Thailand has announced the readiness of the establishment the AWS Asia Pacific (Bangkok) Region in Thailand which will be take place at the beginning of the year 2025 with an investment amount of over 190 billion baht by the year 2037

He said in the past, AWS has prepared to provide cloud services and the investment to provide direct delivery services from Thailand to Singapore.

As well as a commitment to develop the AI and Cloud platform in Thailand which help Thai people

and any organizations can use the service in Thailand both more safely and better efficiently.

AWS Summit in Bangkok is part of the annual meeting of AWS Global Summit

with more than 2,500 participants including experts in the industry, businessmen, Thai and foreign investors.
